You can reach Lisbon from the Airport using several options:

  • Metro: Take the red line (Linha Vermelha) directly from the airport to the city center. It’s a 20-30 minute ride. This ticket is included in Lisbon Card.
  • Bus: Public buses like the 744 or the 783. They take about 45-60 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Taxi or Ride-Sharing: Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber are available at the airport. The trip takes about 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic.

  • Ticket machines at all metro stations.
  • Carris Kiosks: Located at major bus and tram stops, these kiosks sell tickets for buses, trams, and funiculars.
  • Travel Cards: Offer unlimited travel for a set period (1, 2 or 3 days). Prices range from about €12 for a 1-day pass to €28 for a 3-day pass.
  • Regional Train ticket: Offer unlimited travel for a set period (1 or 3 days) to Cascais-Sintra-Azambuja and Sado. Prices are 8€ for 1 day ticket and 16€ for 3 days ticket.

Before boarding, you must exchange your voucher with a proper ticket at any autoamatic machine located in any metro station.

Lisbon metro and buses opearting hours are the following.

Metro:
Monday to Thursday: 6:30 AM to 1:00 AM
Friday to Saturday: 6:30 AM to 1:00 AM
Sunday and Holidays: 6:30 AM to 1:00 AM

Buses:
Buses run from around 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with some variation depending on the route. A limited network of night buses (marked with “N”) operates from around 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM, providing service during the hours when regular buses are not running.

Children under the age of 4 travel for free on all public transportation (including metro, buses, trams, and funiculars). Children aged 4 to 12 can obtain a Viva Card “Children”, which allows them to travel for free on all public transport within the Lisbon metropolitan area. This pass requires registration and proof of age​.

Tickets are valid for 24/48/72 hours after the first validation for unlimited travel across all public transportation within the entire Lisbon metropolitan area. This includes:

  1. Metro: All lines and stations within Lisbon.
  2. Buses and Trams: All Carris-operated buses, trams, and funiculars.

You can take the train from Cais do Sodré station in central Lisbon.
The train ride is scenic, following the coastline with views of the Tagus River and Atlantic Ocean. Trains run every 15-20 minutes from early morning until late at night and duration is around 40 minutes.
